Data from the Delaware Youth Risk Behavior Survey, the Delaware School Survey, and the Youth Tobacco Survey are highlighted in recently published research.

As smoking rates decline, vaping has become an increasingly popular behavior among youth across the US and also in Delaware. CDHS researchers collaborated with representatives of the Delaware Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health, the Division of Public Health, and other advocates to highlight statewide trends in Vaping Among Delaware Youth. The article, published in the August 2020 Part 2 issue of the Delaware Journal of Public Health also describes ongoing prevention and policy efforts to address the growing public health threat.

Delaware data were also featured in the Journal of Children and Poverty study: Using Youth Risk Behavior Survey data to analyze housing instability among Delaware public school students. Ann Aviles, associate professor at the UD College of Education and Human Development worked with Center for Research in Education and Social Policy affiliates and the CDHS team to describe the prevalence and associated characteristics of Delaware students who experience housing instability. The manuscript also discusses the value of YRBS data in examining the issue.

The Youth Survey and the State Epidemiological Outcomes Workgroup (SEOW) teams at CDHS partner to promote the use of Delaware data in prevention planning, policies, and evaluation.
